Setting up a window like this requires some basic understanding of how to
resize a Macintosh document window. These windows need to be "oversize, " or
longer than normal so that the long text lines view correctly. All lines must
be straight with no wrap-around lines. See additional details below.
After practicing with this window, open one of your documents that contain
extended columns of text.
1- Click the resize box on the lower right, and drag to the right to resize
the window so that all text is in straight lines.
2- Choose Page Setup from the File menu.
3- Set the Scale and Orientation to the desired percentage and orientation.
4- Choose Print from the File menu.
5- Printers generally allow legal size paper to be used. A little
experimenting will give the desired results.
Customizing This Extended Window.
Customizing This Extended Window.
1- Click on the top bar of this window and slide the entire window to the left
so that the left side of the window is off of the left side out of view.
2- Click and drag the window size box to the right until the right side of the
window is aligned with 140 on the right margin ruler.
3- When working with a small screen, steps 1 & 2 may have to be repeated until
the screen is the correct size.
4- Be sure the horizontal scroll bar (at the bottom of the document) is all
the way to left during this entire procedure. Moving it to the right may
confuse you and compound the problem.
5- When the window is the correct size, save it and the next time it is open
it will still be the same size.
6- Choose "Save As..." from the File menu, and give your custom window a name.
7- Follow the instructions above in "Print Size Test Document" to determine
what you need to do to print the information you will be working with.
8- Use the Select All command from the Edit window and press the Delete key to
clear all text from this window.
9- Save the window again and then close this window.
10- Select the Get Info command from the File menu. In the Get Info window for
this file, click on the Stationery box and close the Get Info window.
11- If you view the icon of this file, you will see that it now looks like a
"note pad" with the top page curled up from the corner. This means, this
file is a template and when you save this file, it will prompt you to save
a copy of the file as another name. If you need to change the file after
you start working with it. Go to the Get Info, click on stationery to
remove the mark, make the changes and then click to replace mark and make
it a stationery document.
12- To use this window:
- Call the service and get your file.
- With the text file from the service open, choose Select All from the
Edit menu to select all text.
- Choose Copy from the Edit menu to copy the text.
- Click in the blank stationery window to make it active.
- Choose Paste from the Edit menu and paste the text to the empty window,
and print it according to the instructions at the top of this document.
